PFUJ remember the services of noted Journalist M A Akhyar


Islamabad; Sept 24:- The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) on Friday expressed grief and sorrow over the death of one of the senior most journalists of the sub-continent, Mr. M Abdul Akhyar and termed his death a great loss to the media community.

He leaves behind five sons, whom he has bequeathed a rich legacy of strong scruples and ideals of high integrity.


He has also left behind a rich legacy of life dedicated to the profession of journalism and work ethics, besides hundreds of his admirers.

Born in a well-educated family of Badaun, UP, in undivided India in 1927, Abul Akhyar studied at a local school before he went to Muslim University Aligarh where he earned a degree in English literature. A witness to the events that preceded the Partition of India, Akhyar started his career in journalism with an Urdu newspaper, Daily Anjam, as a columnist, in Delhi.

In his career spanning over six decades, he worked for a number of newspapers in Pakistan, which included Dawn, Times of Karachi, Pakistan Standard and Indus Times.However, in the " Business Recorder" he worked about two decades in various capacity and finally as its Executive Editor of the newspaper under the editorship of M.A. Zuberi and later Wamiq A. Zuberi.

Akhyar was so senior in the profession of journalism in Pakistan that two journalists, who joined him as junior sub-editors/cub reporters at the News Desk of Times of Karachi where he was an all powerful Edition Incharge, later reached the highest office of journalism in Pakistan: Editor Dawn. They were Mr. Saleem Asmi and the late Mr. Tahir Mirza.

Eulogising the services one of the legend of the profession of journalism – M Adbul Akhyar the PFUJ paid rich tributes to him and added that he was a “symbol of the professionalism” through out his carrier.


The PFUJ said his contribution for the profession would be remember for all times to come.


The PFUJ prayed to the Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace. The PFUJ also decided to hold a seminar for remembering his services to the profession.
